Artistic Vision
Organbuilding is not just the physical
act of making an instrument with a set of pipes, action and
wind system. The actual basis for the concept is founded on
a philosophy of music and artisticy. What types of sounds are
used and how are they blended? What sort of music is capable
of being played on the organ? Is it a question of an historical
model or is it an avant-garde approach? How should it fit in
the building ( church ) and is it used for concerts or only
for the ceremony.
If an organbuilder wants to be succesful,
he need two things. On one hand the artistic knowledge and skill,
on the other hand ( this is a difficult thing to explain ) combined
and in association of passion, with delivery of the heart. We
will constructing artistic work always, according to the classical
organbuilding. If we build or restore an organ, we are operating
on high artistic and muscial level and use any knowledge about
that. To this characteristics we add another element, the element
of soul, what will be find in all the real art. In our organs
you will feel, from the individual design and planning until
the final instrument and his voicing, the happiness and the
spirit we did our work. For us an organ will always be more
than something that was constructed and delevered. In this point
of view, we like to be special artists.
It is important to remove any preconceptions
and examine the organ as an entity in itself. Organs are used
in four main areas: ( see below also pictures of examples of
us )
The chamber organ, used to accompany
other instruments and small choirs. It is normally portable,
single manual and without pedals.
The practice organ, which has two manuals and pedals
so most repertoire can be practised on it but only a few stops
and of small dimensions to fit in a house. With more stops it
becomes a house organ.
The small church organ, which is designed for small buildings
or churches of limited budget.
The big Church or Concert organ,
which has two till 4 manuals and pedal and between 20 and 60
stops. It will be used for all kind of organ music and church
music.
Intimacy
One of the greatest advantages and beauties
of a small organ is intimacy. The small organ should offer the
organist (or would 'player' be a better word here?) an experience
similar to playing other musical instruments. It should offer
the feeling of the finger on the string or lips on the mouthpiece.
The closeness of the pipes and, hopefully, sensitivity of the
action should offer an intimacy not available on larger organs.
